Getting solar quotes in Auckland should not begin with filling in 3 basic forms on 3 different installers' sites.

It should begin with one simple question:

Does solar actually stack up for your home?

The answer depends on far more than your power bill. Your roof shape, direction, shade, daytime electricity use, future EV plans and likely export rate all matter. Two homes on the same street can have very different solar outcomes.

The problem with comparing solar quotes

Most people do it backwards.

They collect two or three quotes, see different panel brands, different system sizes and different savings claims, then try to work out which one is "best" (usually the cheapest one).

The cheapest quote is not always the cheapest system.

A lower upfront price can mean fewer panels, lower production, weaker warranties, less attention to roof layout or assumptions that look good on paper but do not match how you actually use power.

Before accepting a quote, ask these:

  1. Why is this the right system size for my house? A bigger system is not always better. The right size depends on your daytime use, roof capacity, export rate and future plans.
  2. What assumptions sit behind the savings estimate? Ask how much electricity they assume you will use yourself, what export rate they have used, and whether the projection reflects your actual usage.
  3. What could change after the site visit? A good installer should be clear about anything that may affect price or design once they inspect the roof, switchboard and cable routes.

Simple questions, but they separate a considered proposal from a sales estimate.

Solar may not be right for every Auckland home

Solar can be excellent, but it is not magic.
