About the service
Beam Solar is a property suitability and decision-support service based in New Zealand. Using this site means you agree to these terms.
We are not a solar installer, a financial adviser, or an electricity retailer. We give you a property-specific estimate of solar's likely costs and savings, and connect you with vetted installers if you choose. The decision is always yours.
Eligibility
The service is currently available for residential properties in the Auckland region only. You must be the homeowner (or have the homeowner's permission) to request a report for a given address.
Accuracy of inputs
Your report is generated from the details you give us: address, bill amount, property type, and how you use power at home. If those are wrong, the report will be wrong. We apply some basic checks, but we rely on you for accuracy.
Nature of the report
The Beam Solar report is an estimate. It models likely production, payback and lifetime value using public data (irradiance, NZ retail tariffs) and the inputs you provide. Real-world results will vary with weather, future tariffs, household behaviour, and installation quality. The report does not constitute:
- An installation quote.
- Financial, tax or investment advice.
- A guarantee of system performance or savings.
Installer estimates
If you ask for estimates, Beam Solar generates instant, property-specific estimates from a small number of vetted installer partners, each built from that installer's own pricing applied to your Beam Solar report. A binding price follows the installer's site visit. Your personal contact details are shared with an installer only when you choose to contact one, after which you can speak with them directly through the Beam Solar portal. Any contract or installation is strictly between you and that installer. Beam Solar is not a party to it and is not responsible for the work performed.
We vet installers on credentials, workmanship and customer feedback, and we drop partners who don't keep the standard up. We don't accept payment from installers to rank them higher.
How we earn
The property report is free, and so is seeing your installer estimates. If you approve an installer's quote and sign a contract, we earn a margin on the job, a percentage of the installed price that the installer includes in what you're quoted. The rate is the same across all our partners, so it doesn't influence whose estimate you see.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Beam Solar is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, the report, or any installation undertaken by a third party. Our total liability to you for any direct loss is limited to NZ$200. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. If we make a material change we'll note the new date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, email customers with active reports. Continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Any dispute will be dealt with in the courts of New Zealand.
